Jose Mourinho makes Newcastle decision as Nuno Espirito Santo issues positive Tottenham update

Here is your football.london morning digest for Thursday, October 21.

Mourinho rules himself out of Newcastle job

Roma boss Jose Mourinho has ruled himself out of the vacant manager’s job at Newcastle.

The ‘special one’, who was sacked by Tottenham earlier in the year, replaced Paulo Fonseca at the Stadio Olimpico in the summer.

Mourinho has been one of many names linked with replacing Steve Bruce at St James’ Park, however he confirmed that he remains fully committed to the Serie A side.

The former Spurs boss told Sky Sport: “Newcastle job? I’ve decided to stay, I’m not leaving. I signed for three years project with Roma and I’m not going to leave my players.”

Nuno on injuries ahead of Vitesse Arnhem

Nuno Espirito Santo faced the press ahead of Tottenham’s Europa Conference clash with Vitesse Arnhem on Thursday.

The Spurs boss gave an injury update ahead of the Group G clash in Holland, confirming that Matt Doherty and Ryan Sessegnon would miss the clash at the GelreDome but revealed Steven Bergwijn would start.

“Yes, unfortunately. Matt’s improving. Sess also but they’re not in the group yet. Next week, we’ll see if we have good news," he told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

“He’s (Bergwijn) going to start the game. He’s going to play. He’s feeling good.”

Bergwijn confident his best form isn't far away

Bergwijn is confident that Spurs fans will see the best of him now that he’s recovered from his latest injury setback.

The Dutch winger picked up a niggle during the Europa Conference League game against Rennes last month.

Spurs boss Espirito Santo confirmed Bergwijn will start against Vitesse Arnhem on Thursday, and the Holland international told reporters at Tottenham's pre-match press conference that he remains confident he will hit his best form this season.

“Last season was difficult for me, but this season started positively and then I got the injury but I kept the confidence from the staff here and you will see the best of me soon," he said.
