Jose Mourinho makes Manchester United managerial claim

Jose Mourinho does not believe he got the credit he deserves for his work at Manchester United.

The Portuguese coach was sacked by United in December 2018 after a poor start to the season which saw the side knocked out of the League Cup and far adrift in the Premier League.

Despite winning the Europa League and League Cup during his time in charge at Old Trafford, the former Chelsea manager was dismissed once form fell in his third season.

Mourinho's downfall was also accelerated by a problematic pre-season which led to fractured relationships between him and a number of the club's key players.

However, Mourinho believes his time at United was still successful and he believes he deserves more credit for winning a European competition as well as leading the club to a second place finish in 2017/18.

"I can just say that the Manchester United time was not an easy time," Mourinho told Sky Sports. "I always felt that to win the Europa League was fantastic and it didn't look like it was, the way people approach it.

"To finish second was even more than that [success], so probably I was feeling a little bit like: 'Wow, I'm working well, I'm giving everything and I'm not getting what I think that deserves'.

"The only thing I can promise you is that when I have the next club, the next project, I will be so, so happy that I will walk into that press conference with a big smile. That I can promise."
