Jose Mourinho makes Liverpool Premier League title prediction ahead of Man City clash

Liverpool will win the Premier League title if they defeat Manchester City in today's top-of-the-table clash.

That's the verdict from former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho who is covering the game for Sky Sports.

The Reds are six points clear ahead of the game at Anfield after an unbeaten start to the season for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Mourinho is confident that Liverpool can seal their first league title in 30 years if they claim victory over the current champions today.

He explained: “I think Jurgen cannot say it but I can, I think nine points is, for a very good team, it’s a difference that you just have to control, so I would say that if Liverpool win the game today, they will win the league.

“I don’t think a point is enough for them. City are a very good team, they are capable of very strong runs, of consecutive victories and a slip for Liverpool will always happen.

“So I think it can be a little bit of a contradiction because Liverpool is a team with a six-point advantage but, for me, a draw would be a positive result for City and a bad result for Liverpool.

“Liverpool have to get momentum and, in my opinion, win the game at home at Anfield, that’s the only good result for Liverpool.”

Recalling past matches against Liverpool when he was in charge of Chelsea, Mourinho added: “I think the most important thing is if you are a better team than them and I remember in January 2005, we came here and won, we were the best team by far. The next year, we came here and beat Liverpool 4-1, we were by far the best team.

“If you are the best team, you come to win and you’re confident of winning. You put in the players’ brains that you’re not just confident, that you are the best team, and the job is still difficult, it’s still a very difficult place to come.

“People used to say the crowd doesn’t score goals but in my case, the crowd scored a goal when we lost the Champions League semi-final. So it’s an incredibly difficult place to come, especially if Liverpool are a better team than you, and I also experienced that.“
