Jose Mourinho makes frank admission over Alexis Sanchez's failure at Manchester United

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he never felt that Alexis Sanchez was happy after he moved to the club.

The Chilean completed a move from Arsenal to Old Trafford, then under the stewardship of Mourinho in January 2018, but his time at the club didn't go as planned.

After being involved in 125 goals in 166 appearances in the colours of Arsenal, the 30-year-old was involved in just 14 in his 45 games for United.

Sanchez completed a loan move to Serie A side Inter at the end of last month, and Mourinho has revealed the reasons he thinks were behind the player's poor performances in a Man United shirt.

"Sanchez… I felt him [to be] not a happy man. And I think in every job you have when you are not happy it is not so easy to perform at every level," he told the Telegraph .

"And maybe I am wrong. Maybe it was me who was not capable to get into him and to get the best out of him.

"As a manager sometimes you have the capacity to get the best out of the players and other times you are not successful in that approach.

"But the reality is that I always felt [of Sanchez], ‘a sad man’. So probably in Italy he will recover this. I hope he can. I always wish well to every player.”
