Jose Mourinho makes Bruno Fernandes transfer claim over Manchester United swap deal

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho insists he would not swap Giovani Lo Celso for Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes.

Spurs held talks to sign Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon last summer but backed out of a deal after failing to agree a fee with the Portuguese club.

Former manager Mauricio Pochettino instead made a move to sign Lo Celso on a season-long loan from Real Betis in order to add much needed creativity to his side's midfield.

Tottenham eventually made the loan move permanent in the January transfer window, the same month former transfer target Fernandes completed his move to United.

The Portuguese international has been an instant hit at Old Trafford and has been directly involved in eight goals in his eight Premier League appearances, while Lo Celso is yet to register a goal or an assist in his 21 league games for Tottenham.

However, Mourinho insists he would not swap the Argentine midfielder for Fernandes, or for anyone at all.

"I don't know anything about that," Mourinho told Sky Sports News. "But if that is true, and if Giovani Lo Celso was the player that came to Spurs [instead of Bruno Fernandes], then I would say I wouldn't change Giovani Lo Celso for any player.

"[I wouldn't swap Lo Celso] for any player. It's not just for Bruno, but for any player."
