Jose Mourinho 'made shock new offer by Celtic' to become next manager

Celtic have made a shock move to make Jose Mourinho their new manager, according to reports.

Portuguese boss Mourinho has been jobless since he was sacked as Manchester United chief in December but is on the hunt for a fresh challenge this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, the Hoops have made a competitive financial offer for the three-time Premier League winner.

But Mourinho wants to make a deep assessment over where he thinks will be the best move for him, with a strong consideration over whether he could send Celtic deep into the Champions League.

Mourinho has apparently been inundated with offers recently with AS Roma and Lyon heavily linked with him.

Roma, who could be backed with new investment from Qatar, have offered a three-year deal to return to Italy - having won the Serie A there with Inter Milan.

Celtic wrapped up an eighth-successive Scottish Premiership title with a 3-0 victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie this weekend.

With the Scottish League Cup already in the bag, the Bhoys - still unbeaten under interim boss Neil Lennon - will now have their sights set on an unprecedented domestic triple treble.

And stand-in boss Neil Lennon revealed he isn't necessarily looking to extend his short term contract at Celtic Park.

"I certainly have a rhino hide," Lennon said after the 3-0 win at Aberdeen.

Jose Mourinho makes big Liverpool call as he predicts Champions League's semis

"On the outside it probably looks easy but on the inside there was a lot of discontent and agitation around the club at the time. You had to keep calm.

"I'm here to do a job and I've done it. I didn't ask for the job - I got asked to do it short term. I am pleased with my staff for helping me through it.

"Some of the performances weren't great but we are unbeaten in 11 games so the standard and expectation is very, very high."
