Jose Mourinho looks to enhance Tottenham's youth vision as defender can aid transfer plans

Here is your Spurs morning digest for Friday, May 8.

Mourinho’s exciting plans for young players

Jose Mourinho is not renowned for his development of young players. But when he arrived at Tottenham Hotspur there was a keen desire to make the most of the young talent at the club.

“I really like this squad and looking at the young players, there is not one manager in the world that doesn’t like to play with young players and to help young players to develop. There is not one,” Mourinho said upon his arrival.

And as Alasdair Gold points out for football.london, Mourinho has stuck by that and has great plans for the future of the young players at the club.

From Troy Parrott and Japhet Tanganga out of the academy to the young signings that have been made, including 19-year-old Ryan Sessegnon, 21-year-old Gedson Fernandes and 22-year-old Steven Bergwijn, Mourinho has been keen to utilise young players.

How he uses them in the future will strongly define both the Spurs team and his tenure at the club.

Cameron Carter-Vickers can raise funds

Due to the current financial pressures that Spurs feel thanks to COVID-19 and several months with matchday revenue, finding marginal benefits in the transfer window is crucial. And in loanee defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, the club has a chance to raise some funds.

Carter-Vickers has spent a series of unfruitful loans in the lower leagues, including at Sheffield United and Stoke City. But this year, he has impressed at Championship strugglers Luton Town, including those he plays alongside.

“He hasn’t really played too many games in the Football League, but he comes across like he’s got such experience and such a relaxed manner about him," Luton skipper Sonny Bradley told Luton Today.

“I feel safe next to him, he does plenty of talking, he’s solid and he’s not the biggest, height-wise, but in the air he’s very good.

“He’s come in, been solid and he’s calmed us down a lot. I think he’s been a big part of what we’re doing at the minute and he’s helped us gain points.”

As Rob Guest explains for football.london, Spurs could use Carter-Vickers’ strong form to cash in and help fund what is a difficult financial period for the club.

The brutal Juande Ramos sacking

Juande Ramos may be the last manager to bring a trophy to Spurs, but his tenure at the club was disastrous and is largely seen as one of the most difficult periods of the club since chairman Daniel Levy took over.

And when Spurs chose to fire Ramos and hire Harry Redknapp in his place, they did not waste any time to do so, as former striker Darren Bent explained this week.

“When I was at Spurs we had Juande Ramos as the manager,” he told talkSPORT. “He got sacked in the evening of a game, and the chairman came in and said: ‘By the way, we’ve sacked Juande Ramos.’

“The next thing we knew Harry Redknapp strolled in and said: ‘Hi Guys, you alright?’ Out of nowhere we were sitting in this room and he just strolled in – it was the most bizarre thing.

“It was literally 30 seconds after – we didn’t even see Ramos leave, but we saw Harry come in!”
