Jose Mourinho 'lined up for shock return to management with European giants'

Out-of-work Jose Mourinho's next stop is likely to be Germany and Bayern Munich .

That is according to sources in France who say the five-time European champions are ready to end his exile from football this summer.

French football specialists Foot Mercato claim he will replace under pressure Niko Kovac at the end of the season.

Mourinho has been without a club since leaving Manchester United in December.

Munich are having a season to forget having already crashed out of the Champions League and after playing second fiddle to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga for most of the campaign.

Foot Mercato say: "According to our information, the Bavarian club would think seriously about Jose Mourinho for the next season.

How Pep Guardiola made Ole Gunnar Solskjaer think he'd missed out on Man Utd job

"They were already interested in The Special One a few years ago, but the opportunity was not created.

"This time the shooting window seems a bit bigger. It remains to be seen whether the Portuguese will want to set foot where Guardiola reigned supreme."

Last week Mourinho revealed his plans to return to management in June this year.

He says he has rejected "three or four" offers to get back in the dugout since being relieved of his duties at Old Trafford last year.

"I would like to be back in the summer in June for a new club and a new pre-season,"   he told BeIn Sports.

Man Utd's new home kit 'leaked' for 2019/20 and fans aren't impressed

"I know exactly what I don't want. I know what I want, in terms of not the specific club but the nature of the job, the dimension of the job.

"I am working, preparing myself for the next one."

He was linked with a stunning return to Real Madrid but they instead called on Zinedine Zidane again.

"He is starting a new step in his career," Mourinho said. "He has to build a team, he has to make choices, buy players, sell them. He has to train them, give them his philosophy of play.

"I think he's probably the best person for this club."
