Jose Mourinho leaves Dele Alli in the dark with 'no explanation' for Tottenham snub

Dele Alli has is unaware of the reasons behind the Tottenham midfielder’s latest Premier League snub.

The England international made cameo appearances in Spurs’ last two league games, coming off the bench against Crystal Palace and Liverpool.

But with Mourinho able to name nine subs for the first time, he decided to omit Alli from his matchday squad against Leicester City.

It’s the 10th time in 14 Premier League matches this season that the Spurs boss has decided to not name the 24-year-old as a substitute.

Alli has become surplus to requirements under Mourinho, having made just four league appearances this term, with his last start coming on the opening day of the season.

After being heavily linked with a move away in the summer window, Alli could look to complete an exit next month, as he desperately searches for first-team football.

With the European Championships taking place next summer, Alli knows he will need regular minutes, with Paris Saint-Germain believed to be interested.

However, Sportsmail report that the player has been given no indication of what the club plan to do with him, or whether they will sanction an exit.

Speaking after leaving Alli on the bench against Royal Antwep, despite having five changes, Mourinho admitted that he wouldn’t be surprised if he was unhappy.

"Let's not run away from reality," he said after the Antwerp win. "A player on the bench who realises all five subs have been used of course is not a happy player and I would not expect him to be happy."

Former Spurs striker Peter Crouch has also urged Alli to leave Tottenham in order to get his career back on track.

“It’s time for him to go,” he told the Daily Mail. “ I don’t like it when I see good players languishing on the sidelines and Alli has too much ability for it not to be utilised.

“I am worried about Harry Winks, too, and wonder whether he needs a fresh start.

“In terms of Dele, he has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

“We’ll see whether either of those moves come to fruition but I hope he has a fresh start to get his career back on track as he needs a new club.”
