Jose Mourinho leads Premier League sack race after Tottenham's defeat to Manchester United

Jose Mourinho now leads the Premier League sack race after Tottenham Hotspur suffered a major blow to their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

Goals from Fred, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood earned second-placed Manchester United all three points from their crunch clash against Spurs this afternoon.

Son Heung-min was on target for the home side, but it proved to be no more than a consolation as United hit back from that opener - and VAR controversy.

Tottenham's opponents had a would-be opener chalked off when Cavani raced clear through and fired past captain Hugo Lloris, only for the much-maligned video system to have its say.

Following a tussle between Scott McTominay and Heung-min, referee Chris Kavanagh was advised to take a second look at his pitchside monitor.

He duly obliged, before issuing a U-turn on his original decision and ruling it out.

Unable to capitalise on that VAR reprieve, Spurs ultimately slipped to a frustrating 3-1 defeat that now leaves them six points behind fourth-placed surprise package West Ham - with seven games remaining as the season reaches its business end.

As a result, three-time Premier League winner Mourinho has also lost 10 games in a campaign for the first time.

It's proven to be a catalyst for a notable shift in the bookies odds, too, as the Portuguese now finds himself leading the dreaded 'sack race' - priced up at 3/1 to be the next manager to lose his job.

Meanwhile, the current favourite to replace him, Julian Nagelsmann, has also seen a change to his odds - even amid reports in German that he is being lined up by Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich to replace the national-team bound Hansi Flick.

Here are current betting odds for the 'sack race' and next Tottenham manager, as priced up by SkyBet.
