Jose Mourinho hopeful Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks will miss 'weeks and not months' with ankle injury

Jose Mourinho hopes Harry Winks will be sidelined for "weeks not months" after the Tottenham midfielder hobbled off in the 2-1 win over Norwich City on Wednesday.

Winks appeared to suffer an ankle injury at the start of the second half following a challenge with Todd Cantwell and he looked in some pain before being helped straight down the tunnel by a member of Spurs’ medical staff. He was replaced by Eric Dier.

Mourinho was unable to provide an update on Winks in his post-match press conference, admitting he was scared to ask his medical staff for fear of receiving bad news, but he spoke to reporters on his way out of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium an hour later.

“It is not a crazy one – hopefully weeks and not months,” Mourinho said.

Mourinho, who has used eight different midfield partnerships in 16 matches at Tottenham, also introduced Christian Eriksen and Gedson Fernandes in the second half, while Tanguy Ndombele was an unused substitute.

Goals from Dele Alli and Heung-min Son earned Spurs a much-needed win over rock-bottom Norwich.
