Jose Mourinho issues update on Danny Rose's future ahead of Newcastle loanee's Tottenham return

Newcastle United will be missing Danny Rose on Wednesday evening due to the terms of his loan move from Tottenham.

Falling out of favour with Jose Mourinho at the start of the year, the left-back made the move to Tyneside to play regularly.

The England international has featured on a consistent basis for Steve Bruce's side since January but he will have to sit this one out against his parent club.

Due to return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium shortly with only three games of the Premier League campaign remaining, Mourinho was quizzed about the player's long-term future as he will only have a year left on his contract and looks destined to move on this summer.

"No, no decision is made. To be honest since he left, I didn't speak with him. His feelings are important. His happiness is important," he said at his pre-match press conference.

"Steve Bruce and Newcastle I think they also deserve to have an important word on this situation.

"My club, Mr Levy, the player is our player and he has a contract. So I think everything is open, and of course we are on this for a couple of more weeks, three more matches, and after that, plenty of time to make decisions."

Ben Davies has played week in, week out for Spurs since Rose departed earlier in the year after recovering from an ankle injury.

The Welshman went very close to finding the net against Arsenal at the weekend with a stunning drive and Mourinho was asked if the left-back is now practising more shots in training.

"What a save. I think an amazing save by Martinez, just a little touch," said the head coach. "He’s playing so well to be honest and that amazing save, but fantastic strike.

"I have to admit a little bit of a surprise for me. I wouldn’t feel that Ben is this kind of left winger, left wing-back or full-back who strikes the ball so, so, so well.

"What I love in him is that I always know how he’s going to perform. He’s so stable, so compact that I really like to have that feeling.

"He goes forward well and a good crosser of the ball and that shot could have been the goal of his career."
