Jose Mourinho 'increases Tammy Abraham offer' ahead of key transfer meeting

Despite falling out of favour at Chelsea, Tammy Abraham remains a man in demand elsewhere as AS Roma and Arsenal battle it out over his signature.

According to reports from Italian outlets, Abraham would actually favour a move to Arsenal, the club he supported as a child - but a move to Roma appears to be edging ever closer regardless.

Chelsea are keen to shift the 23-year-old off the wage books, and would favour selling the striker to Roma over the idea of handing him to a direct Premier League rival in Arsenal.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea and Roma have agreed upon a fee for Abraham, thought to be around the £34m figure and all that is left is for the player himself to decide where he wants to ply his trade.

Italian publication Corriere dello Sport claim that though Roma are optimistic over their chances of landing the England international, lingering interest from the Gunners is a cause for concern among the Roma hierarchy.

As a result, newly-appointed Roma boss Jose Mourinho has signed off on the idea of boosting the personal terms previously offered, from €4m to €5m a year after tax.

The same report claims that the player's camp are set to meet with Roma representatives this weekend as the Serie A outfit grow impatient waiting for an answer from the striker.

Arsenal are also thought to have made contact with Abraham and even agreed personal terms with the former Aston Villa loan star.

Thomas Tuchel has conceded that Abraham has every right to be unhappy with the lack of first-team opportunities he has been given under the German since his arrival in the Chelsea hot-seat at the turn of the year.

"He (Abraham) was clearly not happy with the last half a year and maybe he has reason also not to be happy and maybe it was also my fault not to push him, not to trust him on the same level I maybe trusted other players", Tuchel said.

"I can absolutely understand that he wants more minutes. So the decision will be 'how do we plan, what are Tammy's plans, does he fight his way back into the team from the position where he ended last season or does he want to change club to have the chance of being a regular starter?'"

The forward ended last season as Chelsea's joint-top scorer with 12 goals, the same amount as £45m man Timo Werner, but was used sparingly under Tuchel, left out of both major cup finals at the end of the season.
