Jose Mourinho: I need to know Christian Eriksen's commitment before he starts for Tottenham

Jose Mourinho says he must understand Christian Eriksen's commitment to the cause after leaving him out of his first Tottenham starting line-up.

The midfielder has made no secret of his desire to leave the club with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Eriksen has just one goal and one assist this season, with his performances coming under criticism from fans and pundits, and Mourinho named him as a substitute on Saturday.

Mourinho instead opted to start Dele Alli, Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura behind Harry Kane, with Harry Winks and Eric Dier in holding midfield roles.

"The match today is very important, but our future is also very important and I need to understand really what is in Christian's mind or heart," Mourinho told BT Sport.

"We have to make the right decision for the club. But on top of that I believe that Lucas and Sonny and Harry Kane - they are players with a good understanding.

"We're going to try and find, in the little time we've had to work, some positions and some dynamic where they can hurt the opposition and let's see if we can do it.

"I like the ideas, but I like to work the ideas and this today is more about ideas than to work them, so let's see if we can find happiness."
