Jose Mourinho hits out at 'lucky' Liverpool over Andrew Robertson VAR decision against Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has insisted that Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson should have been sent off during their 1-0 defeat on Saturday.

The Reds moved 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League table thanks to a solitary goal from Roberto Firmino in the first half.

Defeat for Spurs, meanwhile, leaves them eighth in the standings, nine points adrift of Chelsea in fourth.

However, despite praising Liverpool for their performance, Mourinho has questioned why VAR didn't intervene and send off Robertson for a high challenge on Japhet Tanganga in the second half.

Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool: Jose Mourinho post match press conference

The Portuguese head coach was left baffled by the technology not stepping in and referenced Son Heung-min's red card against Chelsea in December.

"[Liverpool] are so, so good and so, so strong in every area. On top of that, they are lucky," Mourinho told Sky Sports after the match.

"They could perfectly concede a goal, they could perfectly finish the game with 10 because the VAR at that time was having a tea and didn't watch Robertson for a red card.

"Compare that with Son, when Son got the red card [vs Chelsea]. I think fantastic experience for the boys and I said inside, with what we had at this time, they gave absolutely everything.

"Sadness, yes, but I told them don't hide at home, go out, go to a restaurant, have a meal."
