Liverpool continue to be linked with a host of centre-backs, but one could be about to go on the market and would solve their problems.
Ever since Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez suffered probable season-ending injuries towards the end of last year, much of the transfer talk around Anfield has been dominated by the need for the club to sign a new centre-back.
And according to reports, West Ham defender Issa Diop will be available before the end of the current transfer window.
As claimed by Football Insider, the Hammers are willing to let Diop leave the London Stadium this month on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Anfield sources, however, have insisted that recruitment work going on now would mainly be looking ahead to the summer.
And while Diop has not been directly linked with a move to Liverpool, plenty of Reds fans have been reacting to the rumours and have encouraged the club to make a move.
Qhudeni: “Liverpool must sign him.”
LFC Brett: “Give them Origi on loan, we take Diop on loan. Best for both parties.”
Iki: “Normally wouldn’t want this but can we just please get this done if there’s no Militao.”
LFC Cobla: “Anything will do at this point.”
Dean Simmons: “Do the right thing Michael (Edwards).”
Since breaking into the West Ham first-team, Diop has earned himself a number of admirers, one of those being Jose Mourinho.
When the current Tottenham Hotspur boss was in charge of Manchester United, he was full of praise for Diop after a 3-1 defeat in September 2018.
“He had a fantastic match,” said Mourinho, after the game at the London Stadium a little over two years ago.
He added: “Congratulations to the scout that found a 21-year-old kid Diop – a monster who dominated in the duels.”
