Jose Mourinho has been proved wrong about Didier Drogba goal record at Chelsea

Chelsea supporters have been reacting to a glaring error made by former manager Jose Mourinho.

This was in reference to Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson's prediction that Tottenham Hotspur striker would struggle to score 25-30 goals under the Portuguese tactician next season.

But in true Mourinho fashion, he responded to the former Arsenal star's claim by launching an amazing detailed defence of his record with strikers.

"For you not to lose time, I can say that I had a few strikers who played for me and they are not bad," Mourinho said in his pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon.

"I had one guy called Drogba. He played for me four seasons, he scored 186 goals which gives an average of 46 goals per season.

The only problem with this passionate defence is the Drogba record.

Not only did the Blues legend not average 46 goals per season under Mourinho, he also didn't score 186 times across two spells at Stamford Bridge as 164 is the correct number.

And a number of Chelsea fans have been quick to point out Mourinho's mistake.

Mourinho also name-dropped two players including Cristiano Ronaldo, who played under him at Real Madrid as he attempted to prove that he can get the best out of forwards.

"I had one guy who is not also bad. Plays for Juventus now," Mourinho added. "He played for me for three seasons. He scored 168 goals which gives an average of 56 goals per season.

"I had another guy that is also not bad, called Karim Benzema. He played for me three seasons. He was not always starting because he was quite young at the time. He scored for me 78 goals in three seasons, which gives a 26 goal average per season."
