Jose Mourinho handed Tottenham injury boost ahead of Liverpool showdown

Jose Mourinho has been handed a big boost ahead of Saturday's game against Liverpool following Danny Rose's return to training from injury.

The left-back hasn't featured for Tottenham since playing the final 16 minutes of their 2-0 home defeat to Chelsea prior to Christmas due to a calf problem.

Mourinho did state ahead of the New Year's Day clash at Southampton that he wasn't exactly sure on when the England international would return to action, although he did estimate that he would roughly be out for a couple of weeks.

Jan Vertonghen had actually been moved across to left-back ahead of Rose prior to his injury, with Ryan Sessegnon also playing there and as a left wing-back over the festive period with Mourinho shaking things up at the back.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane set for lengthy spell on the sidelines after injury

Following his appointment in place of Mauricio Pochettino back in November, the 56-year-old had actually started Ben Davies at left-back in his first game in charge but he had to come off in the closing stages at the London Stadium due to an ankle issue.

The Welshman is still on the sidelines and he is currently continuing his on-field rehabilitation as he looks to come back and make the position his own.

Tanguy Ndombele, who was substituted off with a hip issue at Southampton, is also continuing his on-field rehabilitation, while Hugo Lloris is completing the final stages of his rehab from the horror elbow injury he suffered at Brighton & Hove Albion at the start of October.

Two players Mourinho is definitely without for the next few months are Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko.

Spurs confirmed on Thursday evening that the former is not expected to return to training until April at the earliest as he needs to go under the knife to repair a ruptured tendon in his left hamstring that he suffered at Southampton.

The news about Kane came 48 hours after it was revealed that Sissoko would also not be back on the training pitch until early April after undergoing surgery to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

The recent injuries could well see Mourinho make a move in the transfer market having previously stated that he was happy with the players at the club.
