Jose Mourinho gives update on Juan Foyth's future and whether the defender will start vs Wolves

We could be set to see a lot more of Juan Foyth in the Tottenham team after a positive display against Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening.

In and out of the squad in Jose Mourinho's first few games in charge, the Argentine was given an opportunity in the starting XI at the Allianz Arena with the new head coach changing things about with qualification already assured of.

Foyth partnered Toby Alderweireld in the heart of defence and he certainly did enough during his 90 minutes on the pitch to impress Mourinho.

However, it appears that he is going to have to bide his time for a place in the team again with the 56-year-old so far going with a settled defence of Alderweireld, Serge Aurier, Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen in recent weeks.

Asked at his pre-match press conference if any of the players to come in against Bayern had given him a decision to make ahead of Sunday's trip to Wolves, Mourinho namechecked the Argentina international but claimed that he will not be starting at Molineux.

"The team for Sunday was decided before Wednesday. So Wednesday doesn't make an impact on the Sunday decisions," he told reporters.

"But of course in the way I know some players had a very good performance.

"Do you want a name just to be happy? Foyth. He was very stable, very solid, very calm. He played very very well.

"Is he going to start on Sunday? No. But I'm really happy with his performance."

Given the lack of playing time for Foyth so far under Mourinho, it was reported in The Athletic that the 21-year-old would look for a move away in January to get some regular minutes under his belt.

Mourinho was quizzed about potential loan departures at the turn of the year and he stated that the defender would be going nowhere.

"We'll make the best decision for the players and for the club," said the Portuguese boss. "At this moment the players that went with us to Munich are part of our squad.

"We need players and I don't think there'll be many doors open for players to get out on loan.

"If you want to be more direct like some media was saying Foyth is one of them, I can kill it now. No chance.

"If you want to speak about some of the other younger players let's analyse the situation.

"If you are just shy of not mentioning Foyth but the objective is to ask Foyth, no chance."
