Jose Mourinho gives honest verdict on Arsenal ahead of North London Derby

Jose Mourinho says he has not been deceived by Arsenal's league position as he believes their "incredible" squad is packed full of "potential".

Tottenham's manager takes his side to the Emirates for the North London Derby on Sunday with both sides under-performing in the table.

Arsenal have struggled to lift themselves higher than their current position of 10th this season, and cannot afford to lose any more ground if they are to secure a spot in Europe.

But Mourinho is taking nothing for granted despite his team's recent upturn in form as he is full aware of the challenge Mikel Arteta's side represent.

He told Spurs TV : "It’s a pity it’s an empty stadium. We would like to play in full stadiums in these big matches, even away I’d prefer to play in a full stadium, much more adrenaline, much more emotion, I’d prefer that.

"Anyway, it’s an important game and even if it wasn’t Arsenal, even if it was a ‘normal’ opponent, it would be an important match because we believe we have potential to be in a better position than we are now in the table and it’s a match we have, of course, to try to win.

"We go in good form, but they are too. I know in the Premier League they are in a position not in relation to their potential, and I focus on the potential, not the position, and the potential is high.

"They have an incredible squad, they can rotate players, big squad, they play good football. We won the last match against them, but it was a very difficult match to win."

Spurs are still chasing Champions League qualification with just six points and two games in hand separating them and fourth-placed Chelsea.

Much of their recent turnaround has been the return from injury of talisman Harry Kane, but the striker is facing a late fitness test to determine whether he will play any part in the fixture.

Kane was substituted late on with a knee injury in Thursday's win over Dinamo Zagreb after scoring twice, but Mourinho remains optimistic of his involvement.

"I hope so and I believe so," Mourinho replied when asked whether Kane was expected to be available. "You know, it’s a big match. I think only a big problem would stop him from being there, which I don’t think it is."
