Jose Mourinho gives Harry Kane update ahead of Man City and reveals what he will ask Erik Lamela

Jose Mourinho has stated that he believes Harry Kane can start Saturday evening's crunch game away at Man City.

Injuring both ankles in the recent home defeat against Liverpool, the England captain made his comeback last Sunday as he scored in the 2-0 win over West Brom.

Despite lasting the full 90 minutes against the Baggies, the 27-year-old dropped down to the bench in midweek for the FA Cup tie against Everton before coming on shortly after half-time with his side 3-2 down.

As the game went to extra time after it finished 4-4 after 90 minutes, Kane played just over an hour on Merseyside ahead of the important league fixture away at Man City.

Everton 5-4 Tottenham: Jose Mourinho post-match press conference

When asked by football.london if the player is in a position to start at the Etihad Stadium this Saturday, Mourinho said: "Yeah, I believe so. Of course he played 60 minutes or so, which he didn't want and I didn't want as it was a game that pushed us in that direction, but no negative feelings after the game. Just the normal stiffness, but I believe so. I believe he can start."

The head coach also confirmed that he will ask Erik Lamela if he can play from the off again against Man City after two successive starts.

Making an impression off the bench against Chelsea last Thursday, the Argentine came into the side for the West Brom and Everton matches and impressed as he took the game to their opponents.

Following another stop-start season for the player due to a couple of injury issues, Mourinho has opened up on why he loves the player and why "he's a little bit chaotic".

"I think you touch a point and I just want to confirm, a good Lamela I love. You are right. He is the kind of player that I like very much," the 58-year-old explained the football.london.

"The first thing I like about him is he wants to play. He wants to assume responsibility. He never hides. He wants the ball. He's a little bit sometimes chaotic, but it's a positive reason to be chaotic because it's 'I want to play, I want the ball, if the ball is not arriving to me I have to arrive to the ball'.

"I love Coco. Of course when I arrived, his history of injuries was incredibly negative. Was very, very, very hard. That's the truth.

"In this moment he's fit, but of course a player with his history, he played 90 minutes against West Brom I think. Even more now, so let's see, but honestly I'm going to ask him 'can you play again from the start' because if he feels he can of course I'm going to play him."
