Jose Mourinho has admitted that he is unsure if Giovani Lo Celso will start against Manchester United on Friday evening.
The Argentine international didn't feature in Tottenham's in-house friendly or last week's game against Norwich City, thus sparking rumours about his fitness.
The speculation only intensified with the fact he has barely been spotted in the team's training photos recently.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Tottenham's return to Premier League football, Mourinho opened up on the player's fitness and whether or not he will play some part against the Red Devils.
Asked if Lo Celso is one of the players struggling for fitness, he said: "Yes. I can confirm that. Gio, I consider to be one of the victims of the rules and one of the victims of the protocols, because he was injured in the end of the period before the coronavirus situation.
"He was in very bad conditions in the last three or four matches. He didn't play against Burnley, he played for 10 minutes and then we tried to have him ready for Leipzig but he wasn't even ready for Leipzig.
"Because of the rules his injury is not an injury in need for surgery but needed treatment and daily treatment, needed close contact with physios and fitness coaches working with him but that was not possible.
"For about two months he was injured and he couldn't recover from it.
"So when the training ground opened and he started to have treatment, it was not enough to have him 100 per cent. So I'd say only in the past days he's been training with the team.
"Available for tomorrow, yes I think so. Tomorrow morning we will test if he is going to play 90 minutes.
"Is he going to start the game, I don't know but a difficult process for him."
Mourinho has also revealed that Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Moussa Sissoko will all start following their return from injury.
Kane and Sissoko have been missing since sustaining respective hamstring and knee injuries on New Year's Day, with Son not featuring since fracturing his arm in the late win over Aston Villa in February.
Japhet Tanganga will definitely not be involved as he is currently out with a back stress fracture.
Mourinho also confirmed that Jan Vertonghen has yet to sign on to play for the rest of the season with his current deal expiring at the end of the month.
The head coach has admitted that he trusts him fully to play if needed.
