Jose Mourinho gets emotional as Tottenham Hotspur manager discusses death of beloved dog

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho got emotional in an interview ahead of his side's clash with Brighton, as he revealed his beloved dog had passed away on Christmas day.

Spurs are looking to go fifth in the table, at least temporarily, as they kick off the Boxing Day Premier League action.

Their manager's mind might not be fully on the task at hand though, as he revealed a family bereavement in an interview before the match.

The Special One said on Amazon Prime Sport: "My dog died and my dog is my family so it's very difficult.

"But we have to move on."

Mourinho is well known for his devotion to his dogs, and was even arrested in an incident in 2007 when he was manager of Chelsea .

His dog Leya had been taken to Portugal and then returned to the UK without vaccinations and animal health officials wanted to quarantine her.

Mourinho was arrested and cautioned after refusing to allow the dog to be taken away, with the animal getting loose in the incident and sparking a hunt by officials.

A spokesman said at the time: "Jose Mourinho can confirm that he was cautioned by police, and released without charge earlier this morning after an incident involving his pet dog.

"Mr Mourinho would like to make it clear that his pet dog was bought in England from a reputable breeder and has had all its necessary inoculations. Full cooperation will be given to the authorities over any animal health issues."
