Jose Mourinho faces Eric Dier decision as Tanguy Ndombele expected to seal Tottenham exit

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Wednesday, July 1.

Mourinho faces Dier dilemma

Tottenham could face a big dilemma over the future of Eric Dier, with the defensive player starting both of Spurs’ games post-lockdown.

Dier is traditionally a centre-back but has spent the majority of his career at Spurs playing as a central defensive midfielder.

As Oliver Myles-Young writes, Jose Mourinho could face a big dilemma on what to do with the England international.

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho plays down suggestions of rift with Tanguy Ndombele

The 26-year-old will be heading into the final year of his contract at Tottenham next season, and it seems that Mourinho is a fan of his.

Mourinho unhappy over Spurs’ fixtures

Mourinho has expressed his unhappiness with Tottenham’s fixture congestion between now and the end of the season.

With the season restarting earlier in June, the Premier League announced its fixtures would be a lot closer together - with not as much recovery time.

The Spurs boss is clearly unhappy with this: “Look, to be honest, I don’t like the nine days until Sheffield but I also don’t like to play three games in six days, which is going to happen in the week we play Arsenal and Arsenal is going to have six days from the previous game to that one and we are going to plays six days, three matches.

“I don’t like both. I like the balance. Three days in between matches. These days are not good for us at all.”

Robinson expects Ndombele exit

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Tanguy Ndombele will leave the club this summer.

Ndombele became Spurs’ record-signing last summer but has failed to catch the eye in his first season at the north London club.

Robinson told Football Insider: “If he stays, it appears he will only be a bit-part and a squad player.

“Spurs have been quite public about how the current financial situation has hit them as a club. Ndombele could be a player that Mourinho disposes of to raise money and strengthen elsewhere.”
