Jose Mourinho faces battle to keep Tanguy Ndombele at Tottenham

Jose Mourinho fears Tanguy Ndombele is plotting an escape route from Tottenham.

But Mourinho is determined to try and turn Ndombele’s Spurs career around and wants to help make him a success at White Hart Lane.

It comes after it was reported in France by sources close to Ndombele that the £55m midfielder is considering his future after his public training session with Mourinho this week.

Mourinho rang on Ndombele’s intercom, told him: “come down, we’re going for a jog” and their work out on Hadley Common caused outrage for flouting Government social distancing guidelines.

Tottenham boss Mourinho has subsequently issued a humble statement in which he admitted he got it wrong but it is believed to have gone down badly with players, including Ndombele.

Mourinho has already had a difficult relationship with the France midfielder having called him out publicly after substituting him at half time at Burnley last month.

Sky pundit Jamie Carragher called Ndombele’s performance a “disgrace” as the ex-Lyon star has struggled to adapt to English football and the Premier League.

It would appear now that Ndombele is already unsettled at Tottenham and the public backlash after last week would not have helped.

The club were understood to be disappointed with Mourinho after the public training session on Hadley Common which ended up with Davison Sanchez and Ryan Sessegnon - who both live nearby - also being pictured as they went out for a jog.

But Mourinho firmly believes that he can turn things around with Ndombele and, even though his actions were misplaced, his intentions were genuine to try and help the player.

Mourinho knows that Tottenham face a major issue ahead with finances as they, like a lot of clubs, face a difficult task because of the coronavirus crisis.

That means Mourinho will have little scope to buy players and must work and improve the players he already has and he is determined to do exactly that with Ndombele.
