Jose Mourinho eyes Tottenham transfer battle as Marcel Sabitzer stance explained

Marcel Sabitzer is looking for a 'new challenge' after six years at RB Leipzig, according to reports.

The Athletic are reporting that Sabitzer wants to move on from the Bundesliga outfit after moving from Rapid Vienna in 2014.

football.london reported in March that Spurs would make a move for the 27-year-old this summer, but that was when Jose Mourinho was in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As stated in the report, the main problem for Spurs lies in the competition that they could face for Sabitzer, who is very highly rated at Leipzig after a superb six years at the German club.

Mourinho has not forgotten about Sabitzer, though, it seems, with Gazzetta Dello Sport reporting that the new Roma boss wants to sign the Austria midfielder, who has just over 12 months remaining on his deal with Leipzig.

This could lead to a bidding war between Mourinho's new club and his former employers, but he may be available for a reduced fee due to his contractual situation at the Red Bull Arena.

Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has also stated recently that the club are looking to reduce the size of the squad, which could lead to the wantaway midfielder being let go this summer.

“We now have a squad size of 25 outfield players for the new season. We have a size of 21 in mind,” the Leipzig chief told BILD.

“So something else will happen on the levy side. That is logical: we can not only buy, but also have to give up players from time to time.”

Since those quotes, Leipzig have sold Ibrahima Konate to Liverpool, after the Reds triggered his £36million release clause.
