Jose Mourinho eyeing another Premier League raid as midfield duo wanted by Roma boss

Jose Mourinho is plotting January moves for Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Harry Winks as he targets another Premier League raid.

The Roma boss snapped up Tammy Abraham from Chelsea in the summer and he is reportedly keen on two more of his former players as he looks to bolster his midfield.

Mourinho’s side currently sit fourth in the Serie A table following a home defeat to AC Milan last weekend and fought back to claim a point in a 2-2 draw with Bodoe/Glimt in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.

With Champions League aspirations for next season and the likelihood of European knockout football in the New Year, Mourinho is keen to bring in the Premier League pair to strengthen his squad.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Chelsea’s Loftus-Cheek and Tottenham ’s Winks are top of his transfer wishlist with an overhaul reportedly planned for January.

Following a loan spell at relegated Fulham last season, Loftus-Cheek has been recalled to the Chelsea first-team this campaign and shone during the Blues’ 1-0 win over Malmo in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The match saw the 25-year-old make his first start in the competition since a 4-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv in September 2015 during Mourinho’s second stint in charge of Chelsea.

The outing marked Loftus-Cheek’s ninth appearance for the Blues this season though he has found minutes hard to come by given the wealth of midfield options at manager Thomas Tuchel’s disposal.

Having been initially being promoted to the Chelsea first team and handed his Champions League debut by Mourinho in late 2014, Loftus-Cheek could be tempted by a reunion with his former boss.

He may well be joined by another English midfielder who has fallen down the pecking order in Tottenham’s Winks.

The 25-year-old featured regularly under Mourinho during his time at Spurs but has only mustered a measly 61 minutes of Premier League action this season having fallen out of favour under the recently-axed Nuno Espirito Santo.

With Antonio Conte having succeeded him at the Tottenham helm, Winks saw 20 minutes of action after being brought off the bench in Spurs’ thrilling 3-2 triumph over Dutch side Vitesse in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night.

Like Loftus-Cheek, Winks may too be tempted by the prospect of regular game time under a familiar coach having seen his Tottenham career stall in recent months.

Any hopes of the English pair joining have been boosted by the form of former Chelsea striker Abraham who has hit the ground running since making a £34million switch from London to Rome.

Abraham has found the net four times in 15 Roma appearances so far this season after joining in the summer alongside Rui Patricio - who moved from Wolves.

Should Loftus-Cheek and Winks be reunited with Mourinho in the Italian capital, they will also team up with fellow countryman and former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling who joined the three-time Serie A champions in 2020 following a successful loan spell.
