Jose Mourinho says he smashed a set of pitch side water bottles out of relief after seeing Manchester United secure a late victory over Young Boys.

Marouane Fellaini struck in injury time to secure a win that booked United’s place in the last 16 of the Champions League after a frustrating evening against the Swiss champions.

United spurned a number of opportunities with David de Gea once again rescuing his side with a stunning save before the Belgian’s neat finish in the first minute of injury time which prompted Mourinho’s wild celebrations.

Explaining what brought on the water bottles incident, the United boss said: “Relief. Frustration before that and relief with the goal.

"I think we didn’t play for that, we didn't play for 0-0.

“We didn’t play to be in trouble until the last minute, so frustration. I was not unhappy with the players. Not at all.”

The victory ensures United will travel to Valencia for their final group game with their place in the knockout stages of the competition already secured.
