Jose Mourinho explains what the Man United wall did wrong for West Ham's second goal

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed what Manchester United did wrong for West Ham's second goal.

The Irons ran out 2-0 winners at the London Stadium with Andriy Yarmolenko firing the hosts in the first half before Aaron Cresswell doubled his side's lead six minutes from time.

Cresswell curled in a stunning free-kick from range, but Mourinho, speaking in the immediate aftermath of the game on Sky Sports, has identified how United got the structure of their wall all wrong.

“I was speaking with Roy, his experience on the pitch and my experience from outside, I think from a left-footed player the two less important players in the wall are the first and the fourth," the Portuguese said.

“Ashley Young, if the ball goes over him it’s away, it goes out. The last one, the fourth, if the ball goes over him, it normally goes to the middle of the goal and it gives a chance to the keeper.

“The two most important ones are where Lindelof and McTominay are and I don’t think Maguire should be the fourth man on the wall, he should be the second with McTominay and try to block it.

“I’m not saying they would block it because it’s a really good shot from Cresswell.”
