Jose Mourinho explains team selection for Tottenham's clash at Sheffield United

Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has revealed the reasons behind the three changes he has made to his side for today's clash at Sheffield United.

Steven Bergwijn, Joe Rodon and Ben Davies have all been brought into the side, at the expense of Davinson Sanchez, Harry Winks and Mo Sissoko.

Spurs are heavy favourites going into the game at Bramall Lane but Mourinho says his side should not underestimate the Blades and wants his players to be 'dominant' throughout.

"The reasons behind the changes is that it is a match against Sheffield - we know how they play, we know how we can hurt them, and that’s what we will try to do," Mourinho explained pre-match on Sky Sports.

"We want to try and be dominant. We know they are a team, if you give them the initiative, that will play in your own half and they give you a lot of problems because they have a good variety and two strikers overlapping on the side.

"I think we have to be dominant to win the game."

Despite the contrasting seasons for both sides so far in 2020/21, Mourinho insists the basement Blades are better than it looks in the table.

"I am showing them respect in the way the table is totally fake - that is the respect I show them," he said.

"They are the same team as they were last season and I believe in that. We want to win the game and we want to be dominant.

"Sometimes you look at the team, and you think one thing, but the objective is another one - we want to be dominant."

A win for Tottenham would see them move into the top six of the Premier League.

One issue this season has been the team's inability to kill off games so Mourinho has urged his players to kick on in the latter stages of games.

"We do what I ask the players to do," he said. "It is true we have lots of chances to score goals in the first half.

"We are not scoring enough goals in relation to what we do, and then in the second-half, opponents dominate us and it looks like we accept that and we pay the price of mistakes that we make defensively.

"What do I tell them at half time? Play attacking football, kill off matches, don't accept dominancy."
