Jose Mourinho explains reasoning behind Tanguy Ndombele introduction vs Bournemouth

Jose Mourinho has explained his thinking behind bringing on Tanguy Ndombele at half-time of the 0-0 draw with Bournemouth.

After a poor first half Tottenham were looking for an improved performance in the second half of the game as they looked for the three points in order to close the gaps on the European places in the Premier League.

However, Spurs and Mourinho had to settle for a point, and it could have been worse if Callum Wilson’s effort hadn’t deflected off Josh King’s hand on its way into the net late in the game.

Tanguy Ndombele replaced Giovani Lo Celso at half-time of the game, with Son Heung-min also replacing Steven Bergwijn.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the weekend’s north London derby, Mourinho has explained his reasoning behind bringing the Frenchman into the action

"I had Giovani with a problem, he was kicked in the ankle. He was not feeling comfortable. He was also coming from 90 minutes very hard against Everton,” he said.

"The feeling was we are going to have the ball, going to have space to play, not space to penetrate but space to play, to have the ball and with the midfield players I had on the bench: Skipp, Gedson, the kid Harvey, Tanguy I felt he was the one with that talent to move the ball.

"I think he was the same level as the team, not better and not worse."

Ndombele will be hoping to be given another chance to impress when Spurs take on Arsenal on Sunday.
