Jose Mourinho explains major Tottenham team decisions for Premier League clash vs Burnley

Jose Mourinho has explained his team selection for the Premier League trip to Burnley, where a number of notable players are missing out for the visitors.

Spurs' squad has been significantly impacted by major injuries to the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min, while there is also a packed fixture schedule following the FA Cup clash against Norwich City and a Champions League tie with RB Leipzig on the horizon.

As such, Mourinho suggested before the game that he would rest a number of players for the trip to Turf Moor and he reiterated that decision ahead of the game.

“I explained it in the press conference yesterday. We have an important game today but we have another important game on Tuesday,” he told Sky Sports.

Burnley v Tottenham: Jose Mourinho press conference

“We played two hours of football a few days ago, that pushed many of my players to run more than 50km, so we have to measure and analyse all these details to make decisions that we think can be good for the team and good for the players.

“If you ask me why Lucas Moura and Giovanni Lo Celso and Harry Winks are not playing today, it’s because they’re not in the best condition and we hope that they can be in the best conditions for the game on Tuesday.

“The players are ready to work and to give everything. The point is to try to give them a good opportunity, to give them a good chance of being at a high level for the match on Tuesday.

“If you look at RB Leipzig today, Timo Werner was on the bench and they’re not in a situation like we are, they have six or seven attacking players, so for us it’s a bit more difficult than others due to the circumstances that we all know.”
