Jose Mourinho has insisted Steven Bergwijn deserved to return to the Tottenham Hotspur team after replacing Dele Alli to face Sheffield United.
The Dutch winger was on the bench for Spurs' victory over West Ham last week despite scoring against Manchester United but returns as Mourinho's only alteration, with Alli dropping to the bench.
Moussa Sissoko and Giovani Lo Celso continue at the base of midfield, with Bergwijn joining Lucas Moura, Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane in a tasty-looking front four.
With Tottenham facing a gruelling schedule of fixtures, Mourinho has insisted it was important for him to rotate his pack and leave Alli and Eric Lamela on the bench to make an impact later in the game.
“It’s normal. Lots of good players. When you have options, you make changes and Steven played so well against United and then in the second game, we decided to leave him out and use him as a sub in the latter stage of the game," he told Sky Sports ahead of kick-off.
"We thought that could be fundamental, and today again, I have two fantastic attacking players on the bench - Dele and Lamela. My bench today, great midfielders, top defenders. Our bench, in this moment, is rich, so I can make these changes.
“It’s a nice problem for me. It’s something that we as a club, we want. It’s something that players, media and fans have to get used to.
"You look at the benches at the best teams in the country and it’s no surprise to anyone that top players are on the bench. When you speak about Dele, he’s a fantastic player and has all of the conditions to start matches, but to have players on the bench is very important too.”
