Jose Mourinho drops hint about where he could move after Tottenham

Jose Mourinho - the Tottenham Hotspur manager - has refused to rule out the possibility of one day taking up the role as a manager in Brazil.

The Spurs chief, who watched his side suffer a slender 1-0 defeat in the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 clash with RB Leipzig at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday evening, was asked the question about making the switch to South America in a recent interview with a Brazilian media company, Esporte Interativo.

The question came the way of Mourinho following the success of former Benfica and Sporting Lisbon manager Jorge Jesus, who is a fellow countryman of Mourinho's, in Brazil.

Jesus made the switch to Brazil back in June 2019, taking charge of Flamengo, who he has since guided to the Brazilian top flight title and the final of the FIFA Club World Cup, only to be beaten by Liverpool.

Following Jesus' success in Brazil, Mourinho has been asked if he would one day follow in Jesus' footsteps and make the move. Though he didn't rule it out, he hinted that he would prefer to stay in Europe and compete in the Champions League - a competition he has won twice in his managerial career.

"The future is never known. In football, you never know," Mourinho told Esporte Interativo. "Today I’m here, tomorrow I don’t know where I’ll be.

"Today I say that I want to be in Europe, in the biggest national club competition which is the Premier League, in the biggest international club competition which is the Champions League.

"Tomorrow you don’t know where you are. I say no today, but tomorrow I don’t know if I will say yes.

"Jesus and Jesualdo are two of the greatest Portuguese coaches. They are Portuguese coaches with very big experience. It’s going very well for Jesus and I hope it goes well for Jesualdo."
