Jose Mourinho drops hint about Christian Eriksen future and says he 'must make right decision'

Jose Mourinho has admitted that he has left Christian Eriksen out of his first Tottenham Hotspur line-up because he doesn't know where his head is at.

The Dane made it public in the summer that he wanted to leave Spurs for a new challenge. However, that move never came about and Eriksen has been left in limbo at the north London outfit, with his contract entering its final seven months.

Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino rarely started Eriksen during his last months at the club with the midfielder's form dropping off a cliff.

Now Mourinho seems to have followed suit and has named him on the bench for Saturday's derby at West Ham United.

He then suggested that he hasn't been able to get to the bottom of the Eriksen situation at the club and is not sure where his future lies.

Premier League match preview: West Ham v Tottenham

"The match today is very, very important but our future is also very important. I need to understand really what is in Christian's mind or heart and we have to make the right decision for the club," he told BT Sport ahead of kick-off.

That hints that Mourinho has not heard what he wanted to as of yet from Eriksen in his first few days at the club.

Reports in Denmark have suggested that despite Mourinho's arrival this week, the Denmark international has decided he wants to leave Spurs in January rather than wait to run down his contract.
