Jose Mourinho drops big hint over Tottenham player's fitness ahead of West Ham clash

Spurs will be assessing the fitness of two key players ahead of Saturday's trip to West Ham for Jose Mourinho's first game in charge.

The club issued a fitness update before the head coach's press conference and it was revealed that Tanguy Ndombele and Jan Vertonghen would need to be checked upon prior to the game in Statford.

The former has been suffering with a groin injury that he picked up in the 1-1 draw against Sheffield United in the final game before the international break, with the latter not featuring since the win over Red Star Belgrade last month due to a hamstring problem.

Well, Mourinho did mention Vertonghen during his press conference and he hinted that he may not be ready to return.

Asked about the current situation regarding the defender, Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen's contracts, he said: "It is too early. Early days. I have no time for individual cases.

"I don’t know how I can influence or try to influence. I did not have time. Mr Levy did not have time to go around this.

"The first thing is for the players to feel good and if they are going to leave in January, if they are going to leave in June, or if they are going to sign a new contract, I think everything has to be based on feeling good.

"And to feel good is to be ready for Saturday. To be there and available for the team. Jan can’t do because of injury.

"Then it is about the club, about them, about me, about Mr Levy but fundamentally it is about players to be happy."

It has been confirmed that Erik Lamela (hamstring), Hugo Lloris (elbow) and Michel Vorm (calf) will all miss the London derby through injury.
