Jose Mourinho drops big hint over the long-term futures of two Tottenham players

Tottenham fans will be hoping Japhet Tanganga keeps his place in the team when they return to action on Sunday at Aston Villa.

Handed his Premier League debut by Jose Mourinho against Liverpool in January, the youngster has remained in the side following some outstanding displays.

A centre-back by trade, the academy ace has been used at left-back at times with Ben Davies unavailable due to the ankle injury he sustained at West Ham.

Tanganga has a bright future on his hands at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and he looks set to be a key part of Mourinho's side for years to come.

So is he now a permanent face in the first-team dressing room after his rapid rise?

"He is already in the dressing room, with Skipp," said the boss at his press conference. "Both fantastic kids, both kids we believe in a lot.

"The difference with Japhet is that his opportunity appeared, but Skippy has not had the opportunity to play many matches.

"But both are in the first team dressing room and our objective is to make them Tottenham players for many years."

Another player to have been used at left-back in Davies' absence is Jan Vertonghen.

The experienced player has been in and out of the team this season and he was substituted off shortly after the restart in their previous game against Southampton.

Many fans believe the Belgian's time in N17 is coming to an end and Mourinho was asked about how the long-serving defender has reacted since his early exit in the FA Cup clash.

"He is a fantastic professional. A fantastic professional," said Mourinho. "I can only say good thing, not one bad thing.

"He came out sad, yes. I am happy that he is like that.

"I am really happy that he wants to play and wants to give 90 minutes and to come out sad, angry, I accept that very, very well.

"Especially because he showed respect to my decision and the team, at the end of the game qualification for the next round and he was as happy as everyone else.

"By the way, because you spoke about Jan, he is big mates with Toby. Congratulations to Toby and his family because there was a little baby last night, so everyone is happy about that."
