Jose Mourinho dismisses Liverpool's Champions League chances

Former Manchester United and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has delivered a damning prediction of Liverpool’s chances in the Champions League.

Despite making their way to the final of the Champions League last year and cruising to the last eight this time around, Mourinho is not backing Liverpool for glory.

The Reds eased past Bayern Munich thanks to a 3-1 second-leg victory in Germany after a 0-0 draw in the first leg at Anfield.

The second-leg success showed Liverpool’s prowess on the European stage and now they have landed a somewhat favourable quarter-final draw against FC Porto.

But not only is Mourinho predicting Liverpool to fall short of the final, he insists all the English sides remaining including Spurs, Manchester United and Man City will also fail to progress that far. Instead the ex-Chelsea boss firmly believes two other European powerhouses will come to the fore.

“Juventus and Barcelona are the two great candidates for the competition and will reach the final,” Mourinho told AFP.

”All they talk about is Ronaldo and Messi but I prefer to talk about Juve and Barcelona. I will always be a football coach and football continues to be a team sport.

“Juventus and Barcelona have experience, talent and a special player each. There are these special players, the teams end up becoming the best.”
