Jose Mourinho delivers withering Jurgen Klopp put-down as Liverpool boss' Old Trafford hoodoo continues

Jose Mourinho aimed a light-hearted dig at Jurgen Klopp after the Liverpool boss criticised Manchester United's "defensive" tactics.

The Premier League leaders were held to a 1-1 draw earlier on Sunday, leaving Klopp without a victory in five visits to Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford put struggling United ahead in the first half before sub Adam Lallana equalised late on.

Klopp, who was frustrated by VAR decisions which allowed United's opener to stand and denied Liverpool a first-half leveller, claimed the home side's only intention was to defend.

In the same sentence he levelled the accusation at Mourinho 's United in previous years.

But the Portuguese, who was boss between 2016 and 2018, hit back.

He told Sky Sports: "Because he never beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. I think he didn't like the menu.

"He likes meat and he got fish, so he was not happy."

Klopp had said after the game: "When we came here this year, last year and the year before they just defended, it’s not a criticism, it’s a fact."

United boss Solskjaer also disputed Klopp's verdict, insisting it was his side's positivity that sparked a sweeping move that ended with Rashford's goal.

He said: "We set the team up to attack and be aggressive and I thought we did that."
