Jose Mourinho delivers update on Tottenham's summer transfer plans

Tottenham are not expected to be busy in the summer transfer market.

The club were criticised for using the Government's furlough scheme when the coronavirus pandemic hit, a decision they eventually made a u-turn on.

But the pandemic hit hard and Spurs were forced to take out a £175million loan from the Ban of England to cover their financial problems.

And, given that, it would seem unlikely that chairman Daniel levy would allow Jose Mourinho to splash the cash in the transfer market.

The Portuguese has delivered an update on the club's summer plans, however.

Rob Guest holds Spurs Q&A after Sheffield United 3-1 Tottenham

Speaking ahead of Monday night's clash with Everton, Mourinho was asked if players would be leaving the club.

He said: "I don't know the market. First of all I'm not in control of the market, secondly it will be something new. The dynamics of the market are something that for many of us are still a question mark. It's a normal situation in every club - some players go, some players stay. I see that as a very normal thing to happen."

Spurs' faint Champions League hopes were all-but ended on Thursday when they lost 3-1 at Sheffield United, to leave themselves ninth in the Premier League table, nine points adrift of fourth placed Chelsea with just six games to play.

And Mourinho was questioned over whether it was experienced players that he would be looking at in the market if they were to sign anyone.

"No, in this moment I'm not going in this direction and I don't think personalities they have to do with age," he said.

"There is young people with incredible mentality and there's people with a lot of experience without the right mentality. So I don't think it's about age, it's more about a certain profile."
