Sacked Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho was reportedly sounded out by Celtic as the fallen champions look for their new manager.
Interim manager John Kennedy remains in charge at Parkhead and there remains little movement in the hunt for a man who can spearhead the rebuild on the park after ceding the title to Rangers.
Eddie Howe appeared close to taking the job some weeks ago but it's now all quiet on that front.
Saturday will mark two months since Neil Lennon's departure from Glasgow and it now seems very likely Kennedy will see out the final three post-split matches.
But Duncan Castles, speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, claims Celtic were the very first club to make contact with Mourinho after his dismissal and were told he wasn't interested in returning to the game so soon.
Roma and Valencia - two clubs also in need of a proper rebuild - have been in talks with the latter said to be making progress, though Castles maintains a return to Italy where he became a Treble-winning boss at Inter can't be ruled out.
That trio of clubs while enjoying massive supports in their own right aren't of the same stature financially as the likes of Mourinho's previous clubs in Manchester United, Real Madrid, and in the age of the Premier League's monetary muscle, Spurs.
And so it's said any difference between the contract at the Portuguese next club and his previous salary in North London will be paid by Spurs.
That could leave the door open to a surprising career move but if Celtic were interested it seems they'll have to keep looking.
