Jose Mourinho decision blasted ahead of Man City clash as Tottenham sent £18m transfer warning

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Sunday, April 25.

Mason faces trio of big decisions

Caretaker Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ryan Mason will be looking to guide Spurs to their first piece of silverware in 13 years when they lock horns with Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley today.

After Jose Mourinho was axed by the club on Monday, Mason was placed in temporary charge until the end of the campaign, meaning he has the honour of leading out his boyhood club at the national stadium this afternoon.

Following Wednesday evening's 2-1 win over Southampton, Mason has some big calls to make as far as his team selection is concerned, with the availability of Harry Kane remaining the biggest talking point.

The striker missed out on Wednesday through injury and it remains unclear whether or not he will win his respective fitness battle ahead of kick-off.

But should he win his battle, as he so often has in the past, it means he will almost certainly be one change Mason is willing to make. But who would make way for him?

Here, Spurs writer Rob Guest has taken a look at three possible changes Mason could make to his starting line-up this afternoon.

Merson blasts Mourinho exit

Former Arsenal ace Paul Merson believes Spurs could regret not having Mourinho in charge for today's trip to Wembley.

As outlined above, Mourinho was sacked on Monday following a disappointing run of results, meaning he was not able to oversee what would have been his first cup final in charge of the club.

And for Merson, the decision to have relieved the former Chelsea boss so close to a cup final could have big consequences.

Merson said: "I was shocked, shocked. They are in a cup final on Sunday, they're up against a phenomenal football team.

"If I haven't got a manager, like I haven't got today, going into a cup final, if there is one man I want to get for this cup final to try and beat Man City, it is Jose Mourinho.

"I know they got beat at the Etihad, but they beat them at home. But if someone can set up a team to frustrate someone, and I know we have been saying he has had his time now and doesn't play the entertaining football, there is nobody better than him at setting up a team not to get beat.

"He would have made it hard for Man City."

Baggies set Johnstone price

Relegation-threatened West Bromwich Albion will demand £18million this summer if they are to sell goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, a report by the Mail claims.

The former Manchester United shot-stopper has been one of the Baggies' star performers this season as they have battled to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

The 28-year-old has just over a year remaining on his contract, meaning the Baggies could well be forced to cash-in to avoid losing him for free in a little over a year's time.

Tottenham, alongside Leeds United and West Ham United, are reportedly interested in signing the goalkeeper, who has been impressive throughout the campaign.

The Midlands outfit are willing to accept that they will struggle to keep hold of him if they fail to avoid the drop, but at the same time are not ready to let him leave without a fight.

Johnstone has made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League this term, highlighting his ability, although he would have most probably have preferred to have been less busy.
