Jose Mourinho confirms Tottenham injury worry for Liverpool

Jose Mourinho has revealed that his Tottenham side could be left sweating on the fitness of Ben Davies ahead of Thursday’s game with Liverpool.

Davies picked up a knock in the FA Cup tie with Wycombe Wanderers on Monday night, a game in which Mourinho’s side had to come from behind in order to book their place in the fifth round.

And although Spurs last played over a week ago in the Premier League, it was clear Mourinho had one eye on Thursday’s clash with his team selection at Adams Park.

The Spurs boss made 10 changes for the tie, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min all dropping down to the bench.

Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier both missed out altogether, while Joe Rodon starting on the bench left some to speculate that he could be the one who comes in and partners Dier on Thursday night.

The Championship side took the lead through Fred Onyedinma before Gareth Bale equalised in first half stoppage time.

But a second half brace from Tanguy Ndombele and a Harry Winks strike, sealed a 4-1 win for Spurs, who will now play Everton in the fifth round.

And when asked afterwards if it was a frustration that he had to bring the big players on, Mourinho revealed he did not see any fatigue in his players, but Davies had picked up a calf injury.

“What can we do? We want to progress in the competition, we don't want to throw it away, we don't want to lose here,” he said via Football.London.

“We knew that we needed a good strong team and bench, just in case so it would be a problem if we had to play 30 minutes extra time, because then the Kane 30 minutes becomes 60, the Hojbjerg 45 becomes 75 and so on.

“Hopefully, nothing happened. I didn't see huge fatigue. Ben Davies was just a bad feeling, I hope it is not anything on his calf, so hopefully we managed to play and not have big injuries or fatigue and not to have extra time.”
