Jose Mourinho confirms another Tottenham injury as he issues Matt Doherty and Ben Davies update

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Matt Doherty still remains out for Tottenham despite returning to the training pitch at Hotspur Way.

Getting a decent run in the team at the end of February before Mourinho left him out completely at Aston Villa, Doherty went on international duty but picked up an injury in Republic of Ireland's shock defeat at home to Luxembourg.

Only managing 45 minutes on the pitch in their World Cup qualifier, the summer signing subsequently returned early to Tottenham as he was in no position to represent his country in their friendly against Qatar.

Missing out altogether in the recent games against Newcastle United and Manchester United, Doherty was spotted out on the grass at their Enfield base on Wednesday but Mourinho has stated that he is still not ready for Friday's game at Everton.

Ben Davies also remains out once again through injury, with the head coach now confirming that Spurs youngster Dane Scarlett is in the treatment room and set to be out for a couple of weeks.

"Same. Doherty and Davies out. Let's say first team players everything the same," said the 58-year-old at his pre-match press conference.

"Dane Scarlett, who I consider part of the first team squad, got injured in the youth team match and will be out for a couple of weeks."

Pressed on when exactly the injured players will return, he added: "It's risky to say. Matt Doherty did the warm-up with us. He did the warm-up with the group and then went to sports science for individual work.

"So he's not ready for tomorrow, but he's coming.

"Ben Davies not even close to that. I would say that after 51 matches or so in the last couple of months to arrive in this sort of situation with only two injured that we cannot complain because the work has been good and the squad as a whole is in a good situation."
