Jose Mourinho can unlock Oliver Skipp's potential as Spurs' Tanguy Ndombele stance revealed

Here is your Tottenham morning digest for Tuesday, May 12.

The four defenders to sell

Amid the financial pressures of the coronavirus, Spurs, and many other clubs around the world, will have to amend how they handle the summer transfer window.

In this environment, clubs will need to offload their assets before they can reinvest in new signings. And for Spurs, four defenders can be offloaded to help raise funds to reinvest in other areas of the squad.

These include Kyle Walker-Peters. Currently on loan at Southampton, Walker-Peters failed to impress under Mauricio Pochettino and is unlikely to have a prominent role under Jose Mourinho.

Fellow loanees, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Danny Rose, are potential sale candidates, while Juan Foyth has underwhelmed and could also offer a decent sell-on fee, too.

Spurs want to keep Tanguy Ndombele

Tanguy Ndombele has endured a difficult first season at Spurs. Struggling for form under Mauricio Pochettino, Ndombele was then heavily criticised for his lack of effort and reportedly poor work rate in training.

This has led to some reports suggesting that Spurs will be ready to move on from Ndombele, football.london understands that Spurs have absolutely no intention of selling or loaning out the midfielder.

In fact, Mourinho is pleased with Ndombele’s commitment since going into lockdown and is keen to reacclimatise the Frenchman into the starting XI.

How to get the best out of Skipp

Mourinho was credited with the emergence of Scott McTominay at Manchester United. For a manager who was always questioned for his development of young players, McTominay flourished under Mourinho.

And now he could follow a similar path with young Spurs midfielder, Oliver Skipp. Mourinho praised his performance following the FA Cup tie versus Norwich City.

“Phenomenal. Very, very good. Very, very good, solid performance," he said when asked by football.london about Skipp's display.

“Even with the yellow card, I kept him for two hours, first of all because Winks was in trouble, secondly because he was so solid, so mature, so confident that I was never afraid of a second yellow card coming.”

Mourinho has spoken positively about the 19-year-old in the past, suggesting that he has a future in North London. And McTominay’s rise into the first team from the United academy should be a path that Skipp should look to follow under Mourinho.
