Jose Mourinho attempts to pile pressure on Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp ahead of Champions League final

Jose Mourinho has attempted to pile the pressure on Jurgen Klopp ahead of Liverpool's Champions League final with Tottenham.

Klopp will meet Mauricio Pochettino at the Wanda Metropolitano next Saturday for what will be his second successive final in Europe's premier competition.

The Liverpool manager also guided his side to the Europa League and League Cup finals in 2016, but is yet to win a trophy with the Reds.

Klopp also lost the 2013 Champions League final during his time as Borussia Dortmund boss as fierce domestic rivals Bayern Munich triumphed 2-1 at Wembley.

In total, the Reds manager has been beaten in six of seven cup finals across his career and Mourinho has tried to remind Klopp of the feeling of losing the biggest game in club football.

Mourinho told the Reds boss that defeat in a third European showpiece would be difficult to take.

"It is really special, first of all we will have two English teams who will win the [European] cups and two English teams playing the European Super Cup," he told Sky Sports .

Jose Mourinho heaps praise on Jurgen Klopp following Liverpool's stunning comeback

"If Jurgen wins it's an incredible achievement for him. If Jurgen doesn't win, you know....to lose three Champions League finals...phew...that has to be really, really hard.

"But in this moment, he is a very positive guy, I'm sure he's just thinking about winning.

"Being a manager, and understanding what it means for a manager to play a Champions League final, I think there is always a negative side of it and the negative side will be that one team will is going to lose it and one manager will lose."

In contrast to Klopp and Liverpool's recent form on the continent, next week's game in Madrid will be the first European Cup final in the club's history for Tottenham.

Mourinho added: "Spurs are not winning titles and to win the first one would be fantastic and could lead to other domestic trophies because the Champions League is the biggest one of all.

"Finals are not to play, finals are to win."

Liverpool are currently on a warm-weather training camp in Marbella preparing for the game against the Londoners.
