Jose Mourinho assistant makes huge Manchester United Premier League title claim

Jose Mourinho's former assistant at Manchester United has claimed they would have won the Premier League if Manchester City had not breached Financial Fair Play regulations.

United finished second to their arch-rivals in the 2017/18 season, with Mourinho since claiming it was one of the proudest achievements of his career.

Now, Ricardo Formosinho has gone a step further by stating his point that United would have pipped City to the title if they had not breached FFP rules.

City were issued a ban from UEFA competitions ahead of this season but that punishment was overturned following a successful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

From Mourinho's inner circle though, it appears that the consensus is one of unfairness and that, had 'sporting truth' been in play, United would have lifted the title.

“Yes, because he’s unique. And that of the lesser success at Manchester United, for example, is very relative, as is easily proven by facts,” he told Record.

“We weren’t champions, it’s true, but we won the Europa League, the League Cup, the Super Cup and, in a fight with a Manchester City, who did not fulfil, as proved later, the financial fair play, we were runners-up, at a time when, having sporting truth, we would’ve been champions.

“People may ask why he’s the best. I answer that because he thinks faster and comes up with solutions faster. When talking about the growth of others at the tactical level, he goes far ahead strategically. He’s different for the better. I’d even say much better.”

United have not won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson's time in charge at Old Trafford, with that campaign under Mourinho being the closest they have come since.
