Jose Mourinho approached over return to management for start of next season

Jose Mourinho has reportedly been approached by AS Roma to become their new manager next season.

According to Sky Italia, the Serie A side have approached Mourinho and are attempting to convince him to take the job in the summer.

They are likely to face tough competition from Italian rivals Inter Milan, with strong links Mourinho could return to the San Siro.

But Roma are hopeful of convincing the Portuguese boss to head to the Italian capital for his latest challenge.

The 56-year-old has spoken of his desire to win league and European titles with a new club, therefore a fresh challenge at Roma could be of interest.

Mourinho has been out of work since being sacked by Manchester United in December, and Zinedine Zidane's recent Real Madrid move ruled him out of a Bernabeu return.

He has been vocal about his desire to get back in the dugout in recent weeks and aims to be in a new job ready for next season.

At a recent coaches forum in Portugal, he hinted his next job could be in Germany although Roma have high hopes of ensuring that is not the case.

Mourinho said: "I would like to try to win a third Champions League with a third club and to win a fifth League in a different fifth country.

“But I do not always have what I want. Germany? It's a country I've never trained in. Why not? Let's see...

“I decided not to coach until the start of next season and my return to the bench must be in a club and in a league that motivates me.

“I am not sad that I am not coaching at the moment but honestly I want to return this upcoming pre-season.”
