Jose Mourinho appointed Tottenham boss as he replaces sacked Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham have ushered Jose Mourinho back into the Premier League as he was appointed Mauricio Pochettino's successor.

The London side sacked Pochettino on Tuesday night and have moved swiftly to replace him.

Mourinho has been out of football since being binned by Manchester United in December 2018 but continued to reside in the English capital.

And now he's jumped at the opportunity of a managerial return, signing a deal until the end of the 2022/23 season.

He told the club website: “I am excited to be joining a Club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters.

"The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.”

Tottenham parted with Pochettino following a poor start to the season which left them drifting in 14th place in the table.

The Argentine cut a frustrated figure since the summer after failing to receive the transfer backing to build on the club's runners-up finish in last season's Champions League.

Now it will be up to Mourinho to kickstart their season and he will take his first training session with the squad on Wednesday afternoon.
