It may not have worked out for him at Tottenham, but Kyle Walker-Peters has been hailed as an "outstanding" signing for Southampton.
Walker-Peters completed a move to St Mary's after impressing on loan from Spurs last season, with the defender joining Ralph Hasenhuttl's men in a deal worth around £12million.
In a separate deal completed at the same time, Tottenham bought Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton, with the Danish midfielder becoming a regular in Jose Mourinho's side this season.
But the move has also worked out well for Walker-Peters, with the 23-year-old enjoying a regular run of games at Southampton, which is something he struggled to get in north London.
Indeed, he was limited to just five appearances for Spurs last season in all competitions prior to joining Southampton in January 2020, with Walker-Peters then playing ten times for Saints during his loan spell, before the move was made permanent.
In total, Walker-Peters played 24 times for Tottenham, having come through the academy in north London, but while he showed promise in some performances under Mauricio Pochettino, he never established himself as the club's first choice right-back.
That is something he has done at Southampton, and former Saints full-back Francis Benali has been speaking about the impact he has had on Hasenhuttl's side in the 20 appearances he has made so far this season.
“Outstanding; what a signing,” Benali said in an interview with Talksport.
“He’s been absolutely outstanding; just composed, not the biggest physically, but he takes up some great positions.
“He’s a key figure, not just defensively but more importantly in the way Ralph [Hasenhuttl] plays, the high intensity and (fulfilling) his duties in an attacking sense.”
The form of Serge Aurier and the emergence of Japhet Tanganga at Tottenham had limited his opportunities at Tottenham under Jose Mourinho, while Spurs also signed Matt Doherty from Wolves last summer after Walker-Peters made the move to Southampton.
But Walker-Peters has been a consistent performer for Saints so far this season, while Aurier and Doherty have both been in and out of the side at right-back for Spurs.
Doherty has played 20 times in all competitions for Tottenham this season, while Aurier has played 18 times, scoring two goals, including one in the 6-1 thrashing of Manchester United at Old Trafford in October.
